MannKind’s business strategy includes establishing partnerships to expand our pipeline of innovative products, building significant clinical and commercial value in both diabetes and oncology, and supporting partner development efforts for their own proprietary programs and compounds.
MannKind’s Technosphere® Technology platform and patented inhaler devices enable rapid systemic delivery via oral inhalation of a broad range of therapeutic agents, including proteins and peptides. This unique technology, which forms the basis of AFREZZA™, has been successfully formulated and studied with potential pharmaceutical products across multiple therapeutic areas, including diabetes, metabolism, satiety, and osteoporosis. Technosphere Technology has the potential to accommodate a broad range of therapeutic agents having diverse physicochemical properties, both for systemic and local lung delivery.
Potential partners may have molecules that are marketed, currently in development, or requiring formulation assistance to address issues such as stability, avoidance of first-pass metabolism, and/or the ability to match physiological pulses of naturally occurring hormones. For companies interested in exploring the feasibility of a Technosphere formulation using their own active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), MannKind offers access to our scientific team, who are able to rapidly prepare and characterize API/Technosphere prototype powders utilizing our in-house PK/PD models. This can provide a low risk proof of principle often within 6 months.
Additionally, we remain interested in exploring potential collaborations to further develop our oncology programs, including our active immunotherapy (cancer vaccine) platform for melanoma and solid tumors, and IRE-1 alpha small molecule program that targets the Unfolded Protein Response signaling pathway.
